Comparing him to Bryant is like comparing Bryant to pat dye. Comparing Bryant to Saban is like comparing Neyland to Heisman. The sentence “number would have been higher and harder to reach had Neyland, ever the military man, the Ted Williams of college football, not devoted five years of his prime to a greater cause. Bryant did the same thing and joined up in WWII. He also had stints at Maryland, Kentucky, TAMU before Bama. Saban began coaching in the 70's...honed his skills in the NFL, then Michigan state, LSU, more NFL, then finally Bama. Neyland was great! No arguments there. But both Bear and Saban has surpassed him. He is number 3 of those 3.

Not 12! 17 would he the correct answer for total national championships...
If Smart is successful at Georgia..then it should be between him and Dabo. Imagine that! Do you go with Smart, from the Saban and Belicheck coaching tree? Or do you go with Dabo, who is from the Stallings and Bryant coaching tree? Quite the conundrum!
How in the world does Clemson barely beat the number 6 team and jump to number 6, while Bama annihilates the number 8 team and only moves up 3 placed to 10!?
Alabama won a national championship in 1992 under Gene Stallings and then several more after that (within 20 years) under Nick Saban.
