Genuinely shocked to see Arkansas in his top 10. Here’s to hoping we’ve truly earned that for next year.
There’s another problem. How do you rank a mediocre team that won a group of 5 conference against the 6 at-large teams that are clearly much more deserving of being in the conversation? Georgia would be an at-large team in this scenario. Do you put the 6 at-large teams behind all the CCG winners? This is not even worth considering as a serious option.
May be wrong, but I believe it maintains legality in this form because businesses aren’t making it binding that the player has to stay there or they lose the money. That’s where the whole “contingent” part comes in. It’s very obvious a lot of deals are given for players to go to certain schools, but any of them could up and leave the next day with a suitcase full of cash.
Because Georgia had an undefeated regular season in the best P5 conference. Clearly deserving of the CFP regardless of CCG.
Lol, TrueGrits bet on Michigan. That’s what all this is about.
You seriously think Kirby would rather play Alabama in the championship over Notre Dame? Yea, two SEC teams in the CFP is better than 1, but no coach in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to beat Bama and keep them out, sealing their own chances of winning the whole thing. Your whole conspiracy rests on Kirby having escaped an insane asylum to become the head coach at UGA and destroying their championship hopes just for the heck of it. Just think about it. Or were you his roommate in that asylum and helped him escape?
8 conference games in the SEC is much bigger challenge than playing the Big 12’s conference schedule…
Snapshot, just because Sankey would be upset doesn’t make it any less optional for a team to play in a bowl game. Schools have the right to decline no matter the expectation from their conference. Those bowl game deals are only guaranteed “invitations” as long as the re are enough bowl eligible teams. Key word is “invitation.” cbmckay was not off at all.
So how is this move not Pay-For-Play? This and MANY others are obviously contingent on enrollment at specific universities.
This is a dumb comment. His academic future was probably just as much an influence as his athletic future on his decision. And degrees from HBCUs are likely more valuable than one from FSU.
Well, to be fair we thought just the same about LSU with Ed O. Worked out for a minute but then… I just hope this lasts longer than LSU’s run with coach O. I am ecstatic we have Pittman and hope against all odds that we won’t ever have to fire him. That would be the most difficult breakup I think any of us would ever have to witness.
Petrino lied to Long and tried to cover it up, so definitely deserved the firing. Very shady and untrustworthy guy that hopefully won’t ever become a big time coach again. I much prefer the path we’ve taken since his firing while sticking to the moral high ground than the alternative look the other way/sweep it under the rug. Makes it easier to sleep at night even with all the terrible seasons we’ve had to endure since. Morris is by far the biggest sham of a coach, not going to give him any more air time than that. Long was not great, but not bad either. Just made some questionable decisions detailed in the comment above.
darthA, I believe it should be “AN F.” Sounds like you may be in need of the same reeducation.
The sign of a great program is when it’s getting its ass handed to it but the fans are upset that no one got their joke. Wake up, you are the joke.
Vandy would destroy USC. No need to provide your opinions here.
Take your arrogant comment and leave. Obviously this is not an article comparing the greatest coaches. Every player is going to say/think/believe their coach is the best.
The concern over Bama’s QB or any other aspect of the team is just noise to have something to question Bama’s immortality. If they have to punt or kick a FG once in a game people start questioning if they’re as elite as previous iterations. Just nitpicking to find things to question so they feel like Bama is a normal team like the rest of us. At their worst Bama will still be elite playoff contenders, unlike Clemson.
Let’s be honest, the real purpose for the CFP is more viewership and more money. Expanding follows this principle and they’ll do whatever brings more revenue whether it aligns with “true old fashioned competition” or not. They’ll make the rules of the expanded field to favor whatever schools/leagues will offer the largest comparative increase in viewership whether that entails subjectively choosing weaker but more popular teams or letting every conference in to pull the numbers. Either way, we’ll likely end up seeing 3 SEC schools annually in an 8 team field since the SEC is both strong and has such a huge bottom-line fan-base.
I do have to agree with this. Not taking away from how good Jones is, but even with a lesser QB, Bama is just dominant and would still be in the CFP.
Arky SHOULD have beat Mizzou, but our Defense let us down. No one to blame but ourselves. It’s hard to claim either of us is the better team after that showing.
I can agree that one or two game outcomes this season have arguably been decided by bad calls, but not all 4. Yes, bad calls were factors, but ultimately there were many of our own mistakes that helped decide those games, not just those calls.
You’re not a ref either, dumb a$$. You post your ridiculous opinions on here quite often though, unfortunately.
This is true, especially during the game. I think maybe if evidence comes out post game, like the video above a player should be penalized in the next game. Like having to sit for the first drive or something.
Not making excuses. A loss is a loss, but this is a league-wide issue that should be called out and addressed regardless of who won.
Nice burn. No one said that’s the reason Arkansas lost, but momentum can definitely have a big effect on a game’s outcome. Sam is right that it’s a problem. CFB is riddled with it. Needs to be addressed and Mizzou was a clear example of it.
