I don't know about the person you are replying to, but the Mississippi Gulf Coast caught the east part of the hurricane. The storm surge destroyed huge portions of the coast. In many cases the damage was equivalent to the damage to New Orleans, except that it was as publicized or politicized. Many folks in Mississippi "lived through it" too.
