Gator Family - so pro-SEC and glad to take all the spoils. But the writer is such a homer that the post has zero credibility: 1) You did see the Big 10 voted against the playoff as well, correct? 2) The SEC benefits from a leveraged system that favors their finances, but still keeps the other conferences at the table. ALL of which started when the NCAA had a stronger hand. The constant demonization of the NCAA, and the court losses, have allowed conferences to take control of football, and that has had an over-whelming benefit to the strongest conference at that time, the SEC. 3) If you think billionaires in the Pac 12, ACC, or Big 12 are going to sit back and let their state institutions get marginalized while the SEC and Big 10 gain a monopoly control over College Football, amidst declining ratings.....bless your heart you haven't lived long enough to see what happens when the government decides to involve itself in large issues shaping public interest. State Universities receiving tax payer funds acting in a monopoly and restricting access for other state universities, and thereby harming the "equity," "inclusion" and level-playing field for other students??? LOLOLOL the court case writes itself. 4) The SEC was not the dominant player in college football until the last 15 years - the 70's was a mix of Notre Dame, Bama, Ohio State, USC and Texas. The 80's dominated by Penn State, Oklahoma, and Miami. The 90's belonged to the State of Florida. Things can and almost always do change. 5) I am in favor of SEC preeminence, but I have lived long enough to know a thriving marketplace is better than a monopoly. If the powers that be in these conferences cannot find a level playing field, 3rd parties will force it upon them. 6) The only point I agree with is that finding that level-playing-field could be the elimination of the ACC - move Clemson, Miami and FSU to the SEC, and then everyone else divvies up the remaining teams. Possible, but still unlikely. I count federal intervention as a higher probability at this time. If Cincinnati can make the playoffs with less money and outside the Power 5, it proves it can be done.
Jimbo is not very sophisticated in how he is speaking about these issues. Not that he isn't smart, but isn't sophisticated about these issues. Of COURSE he is right about the media bias: DJ Fluker, 1st round pick, Alabama, took money from agent - NO ESPN follow up coverage beyond the first day. Alabama never suspended him, never even investigated him! Clowney? He was in autographgate with manziel - not ONE investigation regarding it by South Carolina!!! UF players suspended for first game? Wait, game was called for rain after one play. Oh well, that's a good enough suspension. Not ONE word from anyone on ESPN criticizing the UF decision. It is not that FSU does not deserve the scrutiny, it is that ALL of college football should want and prefer ESPN analysts, personalities, and journalists to have some modicum of ethics and balance in their reporting.
