That he would be "off the board" by many teams, is not surprising to me. When you have no reasonable chance of getting a player why would you have him on your board? Or that you want him badly and do have a chance if you can hoodwink another team into not taking him?
You're right...but their senseless argument will go much further. No matter how much the players would be paid, it will never supposedly "be enough." It will take only about two minutes for the demands to be made about women's basketball players deserving just as much as Bama's football players -- anyone not agreeing with that will be charged with discriminatory sexism. It will eventually wind-up in the Supreme Court. Seriously. It will go on and on and on...one can of worms being opened after another. And through it all, the whiners and complainers will never be satisfied -- they will continue to do what they do best: whine and complain. The eventual outcome will be that college sports will be ruined. And that will be blamed on the wealthy that will be charged with "only caring about money." Guaranteed.
He was supposed to say: MLK, Ghandi and The Dalai Lama.
Simmons is following Cowherd's lead: Yell and scream about Saban and Alabama in hopes of getting all the Bama haters on your side and then claim that you have a big following of people nationwide. Now, like Cowherd, he just needs to get on his soapbox about how the SEC is no longer the best football conference -- that'll get the basement boys from all the other conferences on his side.
High expectations was downfall of Richt and those expectations were manufactured. You see it on this board and others where Dawg fans carry-on about all the supposed "talent" on the team and blah, blah, blah. But the truth is that the Dawgs have had not a nickel's difference in talent than most others in the SEC. What the Dawgs do have is the South's biggest media center on their side. The sports media in ATL have pumped-up the Dawgs for decades and most of their fans have grown up thinking that UGA is on par with the likes of Bama, OU, USC, Texas, etc. The reality is that they are closer to Auburn, Clemson, Michigan State and Washington. Look what the ATL media has done just in the last couple of days with Kirby Smart: when MANY of the high-profile coordinators have a history of not panning-out as a HC, Dawg fans have bought the media-hype and are literally counting the number of national championships he's going to bring.
