Settle down man. OU is not that good. We had them on the ropes. The good news for us is that our schedule doesn't seem like the meat grinder that it did coming in. Florida's offense is better, but not fixed. South Carolina continues the death spiral. Now Arkansas looks suspicious. That said, all those teams could beat us and we're only a few injuries away from the bottom. I'm content to play spoiler until we get a few things fixed. Like depth for example.
Considering the last few weeks with Arkansas and Auburn having trouble with their cupcakes, I'm hoping that we're not looking ahead too much. I want to beat Florida, but I think we can do that without embarrassing ourselves this week.
I don't think that this is the loudest it's ever been. They just started measuring decibels at football stadiums a few years ago. Everything is a record right now.
The spread in the UT/OU game was 1 point. In that case the loser cannot beat the spread mathematically speaking since there are no half points in football.
Herbie picked Oklahoma? Phew! That was close...
The winners get to vote so that hurts right there. Idk how they decide who gets a ballot, but I know that the media changes things
There is no hate like the hate UT fans have for Heisman voters. The unbelievable snubs of Manning and Majors for the only defensive player and the only player from a losing team respectively to ever win the award guarantee our seething rage. You guys are new to the SEC, but UT fans have been suspicious of a national conspiracy(or at least a Heisman conspiracy) for quite some time.
I may have to go stand in line. Otherwise, I'd have to buy race tickets...
I don't think that the environment will be a deciding factor in this one, but everyone thinks they know what it's like to play in Neyland because they've been to (insert 100,000 seat stadium here), but Neyland is very different from Texas or Michigan. The stadium is built like a skyscraper stacking rows of seats on top of each other and from the field it feels like the fans are on top of you. Then there's the way sound works in that giant metal can. Oregon was way better than us a few years ago and it got to them. They adjusted and proceeded to stomp us, but it surprised them. I'm not saying that it will win us games. I'm just saying it's not fair to compare whatever stages you've been on to the next one. That goes for us as well. Do you think playing at Alabama every other year would prepare the vols to play at SoCal or Ohio state? No. Of course not. Every one would probably agree that Bryant Denny is a tougher venue overall, but it's familiar. It's not the same as those other places. That's my take anyway.
A lot of pressure on the vols to represent the conference this week. We're right at the top of the SEC's back third which is the part Bob Stoops is always picking on. Then to have nobody else playing the power five... I hope we don't choke
Bowling Green is in the MAC, but yes. They are picked to win it.
Oklahoma's splits won't be as wide, and their pace won't be as fast. Their QB isn't as experienced. These are the things I'm telling myself so that I can get some sleep tonight.
I'm just glad someone had a tougher time with their cupcakes than we did.
When UAB cancelled their program and the team we found to replace them was BGSU, I got a pit in my stomach. It wouldn't go away. I got about what I expected. But then again, I wasn't on board the hype train to begin with. Still optimistic and hoping for 8 wins in the regular season.
That's a big boy right there... He's a moving on too...
He's in shock. Dooley had the same look. It's the look of a man who is driving a speeding car into a brick wall.
Really hope we can take care of business early today. Nevertheless, I think we're all nearly vibrating with anticipation.
There's a fine line between bold and stupid. That line is going to report you for sexual harassment because you're too close!
My bad. It's been a good day for people being offended. Also yeah. UT fans talk about our tradition a lot. We're going to keep talking about the glory days until we have some more. What else do you expect from an 800 win program experiencing the worst decade in it's history? We're certainly not going to brag about finally being back in bowl contention...
I have a hard time seeing how he gets another year, but then again I don't know who would want to replace him.
And of course a fan of a school named after a robber baron is offended when I bring up history...
That was actually spell check being clever.
Miami and Northwestern are both private schools. Idk if that has anything to do with it, but I can tell you that these numbers don't come out of thin air. The numbers they are using have been available in every admissions department since I was in school. I don't think that the athletic department has much influence over it.
What's your problem with Tennessee? I mean, I wouldn't exactly call Mizzou a rival.
^This right here. This is why we love Peyton. Last year was '97 and he continues to represent us well.
That's a good way to look at it, but you may have noticed that SEC fans are obsessed with history. That's what happens when you get so many "heritage" programs in one place. After a century of candy being candy... We're not going to have a positive outlook on them.
If this is really how they arrive at the number, then it makes sense that UT students would receive more money given that the campus is in an urban area.
If only that were legal. Too bad he's already a huge booster. Might be for the best though. There's no telling how a guy will transition to coaching until he does.
Les has probably said everything at one point or another. I agree with Wes Rucker. If I could cover anyone full time, it'd be the great Les. Lol
There are a lot more positive comments here than I would have believed. Good on ya guys.
