I think it is DUMB, to not want the conference to succeed from the perspective of a small school. The way the country looks at the conference has everything to do with playoff/bowl implications now.. If the SEC loses every bowl game last year and has a tough start...A&M is nowhere near top 4 in the playoffs to start the year...you know why A&M got that high ranking even though they probably did not deserve it?? Because the SEC was looked at very highly based on past performance...like a record setting bowl season last winter... Heck, if the SEC is trash...it could be like 2014 Florida State..yeah they were undefeated and defending champs...but everyone thought their schedule was trash so they got the 3 seed. Or even look at the Big 12 and Pac 12 recently? The SEC doing well has implications at the top and that's why everyone needs to do well
Talent and experience is all there for the Vols. It comes down to coaching, can Butch guide his team to close out close games against good teams? Talent wise UT could easily get to the playoffs...The East is down and UT is way ahead of everyone in the East. Vol fans should feel good about the team...they are good enough to be in the games and at the table...they just need to finish.
Ky has won the last 2 meetings against SC. UK has pretty mch the same team as they did the last 2 years. SC is probably going to be worse than they were last season. They do not have Cooper anymore and Muschamp is not going to have a better offense with less talent than Spurrier had the year before.
The season as I see it, I'll separate sort by category and rank by difficulty Not gonna happen (cannot win): 1. @Alabama- Too big of a talent gap and on the road 2. @Tennessee- they put up 50 points the last 2 years and it won't be an easier this year at Rocky Top Not impossible, but not likely: 1. Georgia- The game is at home and they have some holes...but UK's main weakness is Run D and Chubb and Michelle will eat UK's front 7 alive. An upset is possible, but I think it is a terrible matchup. 2. Louisville- I think that Stoops has had a great gameplan for the Louisville O the last 3 seasons and the players play hard. The last 2 seasons a new QB has come in and threw a wrench into their plans. The talent gap is not that wide...but it is at Papa John's and they have a stout D along with Jackson having another full year under Petrino. Plus Petrino is bringing his guys in this year and it will finally be his team. I think the last 2 seasons showed UK could beat them, injuries take a toll by the last game of the year, and it is a rivalry game..but I don't see it happening. Winnable/Pickem games: These are the games that will determine the season 1. @Florida- UK has been close the last 2 seasons. It being on the road will be tough, but being very close shows the team they CAN do it. Florida was a playoff contender with Grier and UK shut them down offensively. They are more talented and it is on the road. Florida was a different team when Grier was suspended and they lost a lot of defensive firepower. Winnable yes, but a tough task. 2. Miss. State- It's at home and Dak is gone. They are a good team and Mullen seems to know how to beat UK, but Stoops made it competitive the first 2 years. It's at home and UK is a more experienced team. This is a game that could take their record/team to another level MUST WIN GAMES(ranked by importance): 1. Southern Miss- IF they lose this game, the season will be a wash and there will be no room for error. 2. S Car- 2 years in a row they have beaten this team. UK is a better team and it is at home. If they cannot win a game like this, they are never going to move forward with this staff. 3. Vandy- IF UK cannot beat Vandy then they need to give up on trying to win big with this staff. UK is more talented and the game is at home. Vandy has a stout D and they did win last year, but watching that game it showed that UK was a better team talent wise...but they were not disciplined. UK is older this year and the game is at Commonwealth. They have to get it done! 4. @Missouri- UK won last year, I think that UK is more talented and a better team this season and Mizzou is a worse team than they were last year. Pinkel is gone. Being on the road is always tough, but to get to bowls you have to win games like this on your schedule. Gimme games: 1. APSU- An awful FCS school, they are nowhere close to being as good as EKU. I'm not worrie. 2. New Mexico- They are terrible, UK will win. Forsure Losses for me: Bama, UGA, UT, UofL Probable Losses: Miss State Could go Either way: Florida Probable wins: Mizzou, USC, Vandy, S. Miss Locked wins: APSU, New Mexico Season will be at worst 6-6 or 7-5 with a bowl. If the team hs improved..throw in a surprise upset of Miss State then an 8-4 shocker but that is not likely.
USCjr- UK has beaten them the last 2 seasons and has most of the players from those 2 seasons still on the team. USC has an offense that was terrible that lost Cooper and repacing a hall of fame coach who was a guru with a defensive coach that had awful offenses at UF with more talent. Muschamp is not going to make them better, sorry. Vandy- If nothing has changed then that bodes well for UK. UK seemed to have a more talented overall team last year, but miscues and a poorly executed gameplan cost them...and those things happen on the road easier than they do at home..UK is home against a Vandy team that they are equal or better than talent wise..I'll take UK at home. Miss St. is interesting. I think MSU is better and will win..but UK is at home and UK played them close in 2014 at home...and Stoops first season UK would've won the game if not for a blown call. Dak and a lot of seniors are gone and it will be at Commonwealth...it's not crazy to think they have a chance to win.
haha, your offense is terrible and you are relying on your defense that just lost 2 key players this week. Also...uhm GARY PINKEL IS GONE! Yes, you averaged 9 wins over 13 seasons...but you did it with lesser ranked recruiting classes and ad Pinkel there to coach them up and now he is gone..you cannot assume anything with this new guy. UK assumed that Joke Phillips would come in and do what Brooks did because he was the coordinator through all of those seasons and everything would just stay the same..it didnt! UK clearly is returning more players and it seems will be just as good if not better than last season...Mizzou loses their MVP coach and a lot of players and is lookig to be worse than last year. UK may not be good this season, may not make a bowl, BUT I think they should be favored over Mizzou
