Things to consider about the upcoming FSU - LSU game. 1) FSU played a tune up game prior to playing LSU last year. 2) Last year's game was the first with two freshmen tackles and a new quarterback on offense. 3) The defensive backfield and Harold Perkins had not gelled. 4) At the time there was no reason to be concerned about Special Teams. 3 and 4 are still not resolved. But I think that 1 and 2 will be major factors as to why LSU wins.
A number of things contributed to Joe Burrow's increased offensive output from 2018 to 2019. These perspectives are intuitive and no one can say for sure what it was. 1) At the start of the 2018 season, Joe Burrow did not have the luxury of learning a system and practicing in that system for more than two months before playing in his first game. He arrived in Baton Rouge for the first time in May 2018 to visit and decide if he wanted to play his first game for LSU in September. The learning curve must have been steep. 2) 2018 was his first year as a starting QB. 3) All of his WR's with the expception of Jordan Jefferson were freshmen. 4) He had just graduated from Ohio State and didn't have any friends in Baton Rouge. He had to develop relationships with guys on the team and probably some friends who didn't play football. All of this while trying to find out where his classes were. 5) In 2019, his 5-star receivers began catching balls and running the correct routes after going through the college weight training for a year. 6) In 2019, Joe Brady came in and focused on the tie between the QB's and the WR's with analysts to support him. 7) In 2019, the Offensive Line stayed healthy and had lineman who's first year as a starter was 2018. In 2018, the OL didn't have cohesion due to injury and didn't start the same 5 for the first 7 games (don't quote me on that number). 8) In 2019, the RB position was an after thought with Clyde Edwards-Helaire serving as a RB 1A. Up until the eighth game, it was throw, throw, throw. He had carried the ball 15 times once, against Texas. In 2018, Nick Brousette carried the ball less than 15 times twice. The difference in confidence in the RB was totally different.
