I am honestly SO sick and tired of hearing this. Why is it that people seem to forget that not so long ago we were 4-8 with zero conference wins....ZERO! When CJH was hired, people around the nation had given this program up for dead. Hendon Hooker was a generational talent who accelerated the curve for a year, so the team took a step back this year. Did we have the year we all hoped for? Of course not, but if you would have told me that having an 8-4, assuming the Vandy win, was a bad season, I would have told you that you were insane for years ago. Coach Heupel is building something great here. How about we become grateful and enjoy the ride, Vol fans. Our future is bright and I, for one, can't wait to see what the next few years bring. GO VOLS!!!!!
And now we know the rest of the story! Sorry, couldn't help myself!
It sure worked against YOU. It also worked ten other times last year. That dumb gimmick offense sure boat-raced you right out of the stadium! Not to mention that your receiver got folded in half by Deniko Slaughter! Look, I understand that we were horrible not too long ago, but we have improved leaps and bounds over the last fifteen years. I respect what coach Stoops has done in KY, but stupid comments are uncalled for. Have a little class when your team can't compete in the "big boy SEC". How many SEC and national championships do you have in the grocery store, huh? I guess there is always basketball season.....oh, wait......
I have loved my Vols since the 70's when my grandfather would take me to the games. I have seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The team has been wandering in the wilderness for a decade and a half, but we are trending in the right direction now. The fact that we are in the top fifteen is proof that we are headed in the right direction. Sometimes we forget that three short years ago, this program was written off as dead. Enjoy the ride, Vol fans. Respect is earned, and Heupel is earning it by putting a quality team on the field, so don't get so upset over a meaningless preseason poll. GO VOLS!!!!
I've seen many Vol fans talking a lot of smack on here. Although last year was phenomenal, we are a long way away from having the type of program that can talk that kind of smack. Yes, we are on the way up, but other programs have proven themselves on the national stage. Although I can't stand the Alabamas and Georgias of the world, I have immense respect for what they have achieved and have sat wishing that Tennessee would have been there. I love the Vols and bleed orange, and I think we finally have the right coach to take us to the heights that those other teams have achieved, but it will take winning and stacking recruiting classes. To the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide, enjoy the ride, you are only one bad hire away from falling hard. Take it from a long-suffering fan who witnessed what Tennessee was in the nineties. Good luck to all the SEC teams that don't play Tennessee. GO VOLS!!!!
Along with an eye patch and a pirate sword! Possibly a bag of candy corn. Leach will certainly be missed. ARRRRR!
I can't stand the Bulldogs just as they can't stand UT, but what happened to due process? This goes way beyond football and enters into repercussions for a young man for the rest of his life. If, in the course of the investigation, these charges are proven then, of course, there should be severe consequences. There are many people out there who would love nothing more than to get their fifteen minutes of fame by accusing one of these young men of something they did not do. Remember what happened to the Duke Lacrosse Team? It can happen to any team at any time. How about we take a breath and let the process play out before we bring out the pitchforks? I am not saying that we need to blow off these accusations, but we need to let the court system do its job before we rush to judgment. For those of you cheering this, because it hurts Georgia, you are idiots. This can just as easily happen to any team out there. There is no place for this anywhere whether the charges are justified or not. How about we go back to hating other teams just because we do, not because of something that can wreck a young person's life? We have got to do better. Go Vols!!
I feel ya, GAGATOR. Welcome to the nightmare that was the Volunteers. It was, indeed a rough ride. Keep Napier on a short leash and trust the process. Good luck. The SEC is better when the Vols, Bulldogs, and Gators are in the mix. Hang in there, bro.
The only thing I hate about the 1-7-7 format is that some of the best rivalries will not be played every year. For example, everyone loves seeing the TN vs. AL rivalry every year and that turned out to be one of the greatest football games I have ever seen. If they preserve that, then TN vs. GA and TN vs. FL goes away. I think this will hurt the fan bases that love to see these games. With the 3-6-6 format, then more rivalries are preserved and that would be great for college football.
How about they stop the play clock until the defense is set? Simple, yet effective.
Hey, Zach. Speaking for myself, I don't think any of us are trying to take the spotlight off MSU. We ALL loved coach Leach. His candy corn interview is the stuff of LEGEND. He was one of those rare people that you felt like you knew, so his death hit differently. The entire MSU family is in our prayers. There will never be another one like him. God bless.
Some things are bigger than football. Mike Leach was one of those rare men that transcended sports. I was glad to see that MSU kept their hiring within the family. As much as we all will miss coach Leach, this just feels right. Good luck, MSU, and God bless you all. Now go win one for the PIRATE!!! Hail State!
I'm intrigued by this game. Milton looks better, but he still had some overthrows. I'm hoping that they can dial that in with the fifteen practices. Cade Clubnik looked great against the Tarheels, so it should be one of the better bowl games out there. I think CJH will have the team up for the game, and it may turn out to be an instant classic! GO VOLS!!!!
"Two teams wearing the ugliest color on the entire planet (one with the absolute worst shade… “asparagus urine orange”) makes this an easy skip for this Dawg." Yet, here you are. Enjoy the ride, Corch. Take it from someone who has watched and loved the Vols for decades, you are one bad hire away from mediocrity or worse. I respect what coach Smart has done in GA, but no ride is forever. Enjoy your time at the top.
If anyone would have told me that Tennessee would be 10-2 at the end of the season, I would have been overjoyed. The year ended on a disappointing note, but the Vols had a heck of a year. The loss to the Gamecocks notwithstanding, this season was far from a disappointment. Wins over Alabama and Florida were especially sweet due to the domination of those teams in the last decade and a half. Honestly, who in their right mind would have said that Tennessee would even be in the conversation for a ten-win season, much less be in the conversation for the CFP before the SC debacle? Much love to Hendon Hooker. Hated to see that happen to a fine young man. C'mon, Vol fans, celebrate this team and let's go win that bowl game!!
Well.... THAT SC prediction didn't age well.
People seem to forget that two years ago the Vols were 3-7 and everyone was filling out the death certificate for our football team. Now, if they win out, the worst-case scenario is that they go to the Sugar Bowl. I would have been thrilled with 9-3, but they have far exceeded that, and I am overjoyed. After what has happened to this team for the last decade and a half, I'm enjoying this ride. For the first time in what seems like forever, there is a great future for this team. I would love to see Tennessee be able to compete for a national championship, but this year has been more than I ever thought it would be. Enjoy the ride, Vol fans, it's been a while since we have reached these heights.
As a long-time Tennessee fan, this one was hard to watch. After the initial sting wore off, hats off to Georgia. They played a whale of a game and looked like the best team in the nation. We were outplayed, and the defense had a lot to do with that. That being said, from where we were just two short years ago, if someone would have told me that in 2022 the Vols would have a chance to go 11-1, I would have looked at you like you had grown a third eye. I figured it would take 3-4 years to get to this point. The loss hurts, but I am overjoyed by the team this year, and I look forward to the rest of the year and what lies ahead. Sometimes, you just get beat. Put this one behind them and motor on. GBO.
Congrats to the bulldogs. Great game they played. Tennessee just wasn't Tennessee today, and I credit that defense. They threw us off our game all afternoon. Hats off to GA, and we'll see you next year! Good luck in the rest of your games
I keep telling these other fans that their teams are only one bad hire away from a tailspin. I can't say that I am unhappy with seeing Florida lose, but the SEC East is much better when Florida is winning and challenging for the East. Take it from me, it is gut-wrenching to watch these clowns take your team down with them (looking at YOU, Mr. "five-star hearts", aight?) Hang in there and give Napier a chance, but keep him on a very short leash. We were very fortunate to get Heupel and it is nothing short of astounding what he has done, so it may take some time to ride the storm out. Good luck, it sucks to ride this ride.
This real-game experience was invaluable for the second, third, and non-starters. The difference was that the first teamers got 80-85% of the snaps in practice, which shows. The most important thing is that the ones who did not start got some experience that was not in garbage time. Yes, the game was out of reach for UTM, but these players got to spend quality time on the field in a real game, and that will bode well for their future. They were not perfect, but they showed some real flashes of the future out there. Uninspiring, yes. Valuable experience, absolutely. There is a bright future on Rocky Top, and the fact that we are having this conversation not even two years after the Pruitt debacle is nothing short of astounding. I'll take an uninspiring second half any day of the week two years removed from losing to GA State. GO VOLS!!!!!
Jahmyr Gibbs had 103 yards rushing and three touchdowns against a very good run defense for Tennessee. The Vols have a bit of a breather this week, then we face a very good Kentucky team that is licking its chops to ruin our season. I think coach Heupel has these players up every week to play. I have not seen the letdown that has happened in the past to what would be called inferior opponents. If we can get through the next two weeks, Athens will be lit up! Looking forward to the next three weeks. It has been a long time since I have been able to say that about the Vols, and boy does that feel good. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saddened to hear this news. Prayers and love from Vol Nation to the players, staff, and, most importantly, to this young man's family.
That was a troll some at To'o To'o when he said going to TN was just a business trip.
I remember that interview like it was yesterday! It still makes me chuckle. That is what the rivalry is all about. As a Tennessee fan, I never thought that we would be in this position less than two years later. Good luck, 17Tide, Neyland is going to be a zoo on Saturday! GO VOLS!!!!
Well..... THAT didn't age well. Tennessee looked really good today. Shout out to the defense today! I want sure about Josh Heupel when he was hired, and I have never been so happy to be wrong. Looking forward to a great game in Neyland next week. It will be a freaking zoo! GBO!!!!!
Well..... THAT didn't agree well. Tennessee looked really good today. Shout out to the defense today! I want sure about Josh Heupel when he was hired, and I have never been so happy to be wrong. Looking forward to a great game in Neyland next week. It will be a freaking zoo! GB?!!!!!
What a great article. This is what sports are all about. As a Tennessee fan, there is no love lost for the Gators, but my heart goes out to all those affected by this storm. Really glad to see that you could get a few hours of respite from all the devastation. Prayers and love from Vol Nation. Hang in there, Florida from this Vol fan.
