You are exactly right. The two penalties in question are two of the most problematic areas for officiating, but both calls were made by enforcing the rules (right, wrong or flawed) that are currently in the books.
Wrong. There is a higher degree of ball control required for a pass reception in the end zone than on the rest of the playing field.
