I forgot to add. Yes, Mizzou had a horrid defense last year but if they have an average defense this year, even 8 wins is a reality.
I actually think this is a more fair assessment of what will happen in the east. I know that almost all other predictions has Mizzou last in the east but that is mainly because they still have a hard time accepting Mizzou in the SEC anyway...(fail to see their own bias').
Mike, I see you trolling the Mizzou fans! With a title and product you just wrote, it seems to me you are one of those SEC hacks that are so traditional that you still think Mizzou doesn't belong. Is this Saturday Down South today...or Saturday Down South 2011 and before? Look, the team overall should not be considered the worst in the SEC. Worst Offense to this point...YES!!! Mizzou has been in almost every conference game this season thanks to their defense. A couple different calls, a couple catches (that should've been caught), and may be a few more open gaps to run through and this is a completely different article. Naw...I wouldn't say they are the worst team.
Curtis, If I were you, I wouldn't say too much since Mizzou held your highly praised team to 3 field goals at home between the hedges. Two of which may not have occurred if you didn't get two phantom calls that directly led to two of those field goals. And no that isn't whining...Mizzou did lose...but those are also the facts.
Brad, Come on dude. I have to take issue with the "lost a winnable game" statement. So, is that the same thing you said about Mizzou losing to UK last week? hmmm... The turnovers were created by the Mizzou defense simply because SCAR's running game in the second half had become non-existent forcing them to make the throws (albeit bad throws and decisions) to be made and intercepted. The defense "kept" the game from being winnable by SCAR.
sources gentlemen...otherwise its rumor and hearsay which is means the statements/comments are hollow...clouds without rain.
Pioneer, I'd worry about your own game if I were you. Then again that probably is why you want Mizzou to lose. I also think you are worried the Mizzou offense may just start to click this week and that scares you as well. That being said...all that early season UT hype is being born out as it was...just hype. Once again, I'd worry about your team playing UF this week.
I agree. good article. As far as the defense goes, they are much better than expected. Granted, the Offense has got to find some answers prior to SEC play but that is how Mizzou has played the last two years (and yes, they still won the East). but I digress. Earlier everyone was focusing on the experience of the secondary and the LB tandem. Now, the D-Line is once again showing that they are more than capable of filling previous years personnel losses.
Curtis, The same thing was said about Mizzou the last two years. I submit to you, they will be very ready for SEC play. UGA and UT do have good squads but I would submit to you one more thing...they are more than beatable with the present Mizzou squad.
@southforkdawg1 I agree that they could potentially beat Mizzou. But then again its been proven that ANY team could lose a game to someone they shouldn't. I still think the chances here though are slim...possible...but slim.
@Brad Crawford from @drcwmahr....#MIZZOU 10-2 but Ms State won't be one of them. I like my steak medium-rare!
Bamatime. Granted, we DID lose to you all in the SECCG. And yes I had a bad day watching the whole thing. Also, I have nothing bad to say against Bama (besides my daughter graduated from there). It's historical greatness can not be debated against. However, I do find it funny how many of the SEC old guard are so quick to deny the fact that MIZZOU is better than they want to give credit for....hence the constant refrain that the SEC East is down...and that's the only reason MIZZOU has done so will the last two seasons. If the SEC East is so down, how is it UGA continues to do well? Old school SEC fans trying to find any excuse possible rather than give credit where credit is due.
I find it comical that DD2 has nothing better to do than criticize a team that's not in their division. If I were him, I'd be concerned about his own division. How many bowl games did the west play in and how many did they actually win? Yeah...I'd say most of the west turned out to be a bit overrated when it was all said and done.
Well, we know that the AP once again believes that Mizzou will not win the East. That's not surprising though. So many things can happen between now and when the actual selections take place that's why a person has to take these with a grain of salt.
He got kicked off of the team a few weeks ago for violations.
I definitely agree with you on that. Then again he has to when you take into consideration how well the historically top tier SEC schools routinely get numerous 4 & 5 star recruits. He MUST develop them...and not just develop them but develop them quickly.
I definitely have to disagree with the ranking. Actually had me laughing out loud! MIZZOUS defense alone will make them watchable more than just the bottom tier. Their secondary is going to be a nightmare there middled line is going to be one of the toughest in the league. and their offensive line is outstanding. granted the passing game is a huge question mark; however, the running game alone has huge promise and likely game breaking runs. MIZZOUS surprised many these last two seasons and I can definitely see them doing it again this year.
Oh, now we know what happened during the Indiana and Georgia games. It was the Mexican Mizzou team that showed up.
Bamatime, my mistake. And no, I don't mean to diminish the Bama win against Mizzou in any way. Yes, they did lose to Bama and no I didn't forget. Yes, that game does decide who wins the conference but I kind of see the SECCG more of a post regular season contest.
* OC hire from the Rams (correction)
I agree with you on your assessment. I still wouldn't put UT above UGA and MIZZOU. Yes, UT has great young talent and Dobbs has another year of experience under his belt, but so does Mauk...and Grubbs isn't going anywhere...not to mention I expect a huge improvement with UGAs DC hire. Me, I'd put it UGA, MIZZOU, UT and agree with the rest.
Now let's take a step back and ask the question..."How good would these teams be IF they were able to garner more 4 and 5 star recruits like the traditional powerhouses in the SEC?" There would be no debate at all about how elite from top to bottom the SEC is over any other conference.
Actually Bamatime, Mizzou won both of their games against West teams also. Mizzou won against aTm and a "HOT" Arky. And don't be running those Razorbacks down saying they didn't have much when they won two games before they played Mizzou without allowing a score (LSU and Ole Miss).
DL Berkner is not from St. Louis. He's from East. St. Louis, Illinois. But he is definitely a beast for a HS Senior. http://247sports.com/Player/Terry-Beckner-Jr-28553
What makes it even worse is that the committee member who gave mizzou the lowest ranking was the AD from Arkansas. How's that for being fair and unbiased?!?!
This spread surprises no one really. No way could someone show any respect to a team that has improved so much over the last two months. Looking forward to the game.
@lbenton, I agree with you. I had this same argument last year. The don't look at what they were ranked when you beat them. They look at it as how they are ranked presently. Sux I know but that is how they look at it. That's why UGAs resume will show they beat a 13th ranked Mizzou.
well done Mizzou! Well done! and well done Razorbacks. You guys are definitely on the rise!
@zoucat Here, Here!!! I second that emotion!
