Anthony Richardson joins rare list of NFL players with Week 1 achievement
Anthony Richardson joined a very rare list of NFL players during the Indianapolis Colts’ 31-21 Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Richardson had an OK debut in his first regular season game, going 24-of-37 for 223 yards while throwing an interception and a touchdown. He also had 10 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.
The former Florida quarterback, the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, may not have won the game, but he made history: he is the youngest player since the beginning of the Super Bowl era (1966) to have a passing and rushing score.
As NFL Media’s Tony Holzman-Escareno noted in a post to X, there are 2 players younger than Richardson on the list, but they played before the Super Bowl era: Bill Dudley and George Ratterman.
Richardson will look for his first win as an NFL player during Week 2 as the Colts travel to Houston to meet the Texans for a 1 p.m. ET start.
Anthony Richardson is the youngest player (21 years, 111 days) in the Super Bowl era to score a pass TD and a rush TD in the same game.
The only players younger were Bill Dudley and George Ratterman, who both played in the 1940s. @Colts #ForTheShoe #Colts @pfref…
