Steve Spurrier isn’t often associated with the ACC, but the HBC was on Dabo Swinney’s mind Saturday night when Clemson won its conference’s championship game.

In his postgame interview, the Tigers coach shared that Spurrier called him a year ago when the Tigers had won their fourth consecutive conference championship game.

“Coach Spurrier called me last year and said, ‘Yeah, yeah, you’ve tied the Gators,” Swinney, trying to sound like the HBC, told ESPN’s Maria Taylor.

Spurrier’s Florida Gators won the SEC Championship Game four years in a row from 1993-96. The Tigers won their fifth ACC Championship Game in a row  (2015-19) with Saturday’s 62-17 victory over Virginia. Swinney is clearly proud of the accomplishment.
