The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back and Florida Gators legend Emmitt Smith will be playing on Saturdays before too long. EJ Smith, a class of 2020 running back recruit, named his top five teams Sunday and three SEC programs made the cut. The UF legacy could end up going to college in Gainesville, but he’s also considering Texas A&M, Ohio State, Stanford and Georgia.

From a Florida perspective, Smith’s recruitment has been interesting to follow. Dan Mullen’s staff targeted Demarkcus Bowman and Keyvone Lee as the team’s two running backs in the 2020 class. Bowman, a 5-star recruit out of Lakeland, Florida, has committed to Clemson. Lee, a high 4-star, committed to Florida in March of 2018 but backed off his pledge in February of 2019. Lee remains uncommitted.

The son of a Gator great in Georgia red and black, potentially breaking hearts at the Cocktail Party, could be hard to stomach for the Florida faithful, but we’ve already seen Emmitt Smith wear the big G with Kirby Smart.

As far as EJ Smith, he is listed at 5-11, 198 pounds. He is a 4-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite, rated the No. 4 all-purpose back, No. 19 Texas product and No. 126 recruit overall.
