Florida pays tribute to late alumnus Edward Aschoff with cardboard cutout in stands
Edward Aschoff will be with the University of Florida Gator Marching Band in spirit on Saturday when UF football takes the field on Saturday to play South Carolina. A tribute to Aschoff will also accompany the band in the stands. The Florida athletic department’s official Twitter account shared that a cutout of the late ESPN journalist has been placed next to the Gator Band’s seats.
An ESPN college football reporter, Aschoff tragically passed away on his 34th birthday back on Christmas Eve 2019 after suffering complications from pneumonia, which compounded previously undetected Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in his lungs.
A native of Oxford, Mississippi, Aschoff attended UF where he studied journalism, worked as a sports reporter and played in the Gator Band. In February, UF announced the Edward Aschoff Memorial Fund to provide support for students involved in sports journalism.
We’re glad we could save a spot for @AschoffESPN in the stands with @UFGatorBand, as a tribute. #GoGators pic.twitter.com/oQFiruoxjh
