Things have not gone well for the Gators after “parting ways” with Jim McElwain but interim coach Randy Shannon did have Florida playing at a higher level last week than his debut. Now the question becomes how motivated will this team be against a non-conference team with their bowl hopes all but destroyed?

Shannon was among the first coaches to speak during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. Here’s a summary of what the Florida coach had to say:

  • Opening statements: We are coming off a tough loss to South Carolina. We have a chance to finish strong with two games at home. UAB is 7-3, tough in their conference. Second in their conference in turnovers. If Malik Zaire doesn’t practice today, he won’t play Saturday.
  • Have you ever had to start from scratch like UAB? No, never had that type of thing happen before.
  • Thoughts on Drew Lock? He was in rhythm when we played him I know that. I’ve moved on though
  • Thoughts on the volume on interim coaches in the SEC: Everyone is held to a higher standard. That’s how the SEC is. You have to win and you have to win big.
