What Dan Mullen said after Florida suffered first loss of season at LSU
Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators entered Saturday 6-0 and will now be 6-1 going into Week 8 after falling 42-28 at LSU.
After the game, Mullen addressed the reporters on hand at Tigers Stadium in a postgame press conference. A portion of the presser was shown on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
During the televised portion, Mullen made these points:
- Injuries to defensive linemen Jonathan Greenard and Jabari Zuniga were costly to the Gators in the roughest outing of the 2019 season for Todd Grantham’s unit.
- Mullen was pleased with the Florida offense moving the ball until the late fourth-down play where Florida failed to score down 42-28.
- He pointed out if you heard that Florida was going to throw for more yards than LSU (311-to-293), you probably would have thought the Gators would be in good shape.
- Mullen said Florida’ games get more important as the next four are against SEC East teams, starting with a road trip to South Carolina next Saturday. The four-game stretch of SEC play ends with a Nov. 16 trip to Missouri. The Tigers are now in first place of the division having not dropped a conference game (MU lost to Wyoming in Week 1). Mizzou currently under a postseason ban that would not allow it to go to the SEC Championship Game. The NCAA has yet to rule on MU’s appeal.
- Florida didn’t do the things necessary to win: stop the run, get pressure on the QB, and limit explosive plays on defense.
Here are some of the other notes reporters on hand in Baton Rouge shared from Mullen’s presser:
