Desmond Howard knows all about Georgia’s slow starts and soft schedule. But what’s the real problem facing Kirby Smart’s team?

On ESPN’s “First Take” on Friday, Howard answered a question about Georgia from Stephen A. Smith, who openly wondered if Smart or the Georgia players were sick. Smith said he hasn’t heard much from the 2-time defending national champions.

“I believe we’re looking at a Georgia Bulldog team that’s still searching for their identity,” Howard said. “They don’t know who they are as a team, and when you go from a Stetson Bennett, who was never the best player on his team, but he was a winner. He was a guy who would come through in the clutch when you needed him.”

Georgia, meanwhile, is still trying to figure out who it has in Carson Beck, Howard said.

“The saving grace for them right now Stephen A. Smith is Brock Bowers,” he said. “Brock Bowers is not only one of the most talented receivers in all of college football, do not call him a tight end because he is a receiver. He’s just one of the best players in all of college football. He was the player who saved them in the 4th quarter last week.”
