Former Georgia wide receiver Bryan McClendon will lead the Oregon Ducks in their bowl game. Oregon announced McClendon will be the team’s interim head coach for the Alamo Bowl after Mario Cristobal’s departure to take the Miami job.

“We appreciate Coach McClendon agreeing to accept a leadership role in providing the best possible bowl experience for our student-athletes,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in a release. “His previous experience as an interim head coach is valuable for our program as we prepare for the Alamo Bowl, and we are grateful for his willingness to step up and assume this responsibility for Oregon football.”

McClendon played at Georgia from 2002-05. He got into coaching in 2007, starting as a grad assistant at his alma mater. McClendon stayed at UGA through 2015, even taking the interim head coach title for the bowl game after Mark Richt’s departure. After the coaching change at Georgia, McClendon landed at South Carolina, where he coached for 4 seasons as a wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator. McClendon joined the Oregon staff in 2020 as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.

Oregon will face an Oklahoma team with Bob Stoops as interim coach in the Alamo Bowl, which is set for Dec. 29.
