Brock Vandagriff and his Prince Avenue Christian School teammates took on Trinity Christian School on Monday in Atlanta in this year’s Georgia Class A private school state football championship. It’s a game Georgia Bulldogs fans will be watching closely as the program’s quarterback of the future looks to end his high school career on top.
What many people didn’t know, however, was that Vandagriff hasn’t been at 100% for the last several weeks. It was reported that he had torn his PCL about midway through the season and had been playing through it, albeit seeing his overall on-field time trimmed back as a result. On Monday, those reports were confirmed, with Vandagriff set to undergo surgery to repair the torn ligament as he prepares to enroll at UGA.
The timetable of his recovery is unknown at this time. Some reports say 9 to 12 months depending on the extent of the damage, meaning at the absolute minimum Vandagriff will miss spring camp. But his toughness and grit to play through an injury like this is commendable, and while Dawgs fans probably won’t see him on the field for a while, at least they’ll have something to look forward to.
