Published:
Former Penn State assistant coach and son of Joe Paterno, Jay Paterno, wrote Georgia head coach Mark Richt a letter looking for a job.
The letter was written after Mike Bobo took the Colorado State head coaching job, and it was found in a court documents release, according to 247Sports. Paterno was the quarterbacks coach at Penn State from 1999-2011.
The letter read as the following:
Coach Richt,
I wanted to drop you a note to express my interest in the coaching staff vacancy you have. Over the years I often heard my father Joe Paterno talk about how much respect he had for you and for the way you run your program.
Your goals of a student athlete program that develops young men to be men of character fits what I have been a part of all of my career.
I also bring a set of diverse skills on and off the field that will be tremendous assets to your program. Any opportunity to talk with you would be welcomed when you return from your Bowl game.
Thank you for your time,
Jay Paterno
Paterno also wrote similar letters to Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen.
