Lorenzo Carter is reportedly coming off the free-agent market in the NFL with a multi-year deal heading into the 2023 season.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Carter is preparing to sign a two-year deal to stay with the Atlanta Falcons as of Tuesday. Carter spent the 2022 season with the Falcons after beginning his career with the New York Giants.

Originally a 3rd-round draft pick for the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia, Carter set a new career-high with 58 total tackles for Atlanta last season. He added 4 sacks, 12 QB hits, 6 TFLs, an interception and 2 pass breakups.

During his career with the Bulldogs, Carter posted 166 total tackles, 21.5 TFL, 14 sacks and 6 forced fumbles.

Carter’s impact with Atlanta

Carter’s stats from 2022 do not jump off the page, but he finished second for Atlanta in sacks (4) and QB hits (12). He also played the most games of any season in his career while starting all 17 for the Falcons.

Regardless of where Carter’s ceiling is for 2023, he remains a key piece for Atlanta’s defense, and he’s sticking around with his new deal.
