Marvin Jones Jr. seemed likely to be heading to the SEC ahead of his signing ceremony on Wednesday, the 1st day of the early signing period. Although Florida State was in the running, the 247Sports Crystal Ball had Alabama and Georgia as the front-runners to land the 5-star defensive end.

As predicted, Jones is heading to the SEC. And he’ll be doing so as a member of the Bulldogs.

Jones announced his decision to sign with Georgia during an ESPN2 broadcast on Wednesday, giving the Bulldogs another huge boost on the defensive side of the ball for their 2022 class. Jones is the No. 2 edge rusher and No. 22 overall recruit in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Jones became the 5th 5-star recruit to sign with Georgia on Wednesday, all of whom are defensive players. So the Bulldogs’ defense should stay strong for quite some time.

Jones currently attends American Heritage School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. His father, Marvin Jones Sr., was a linebacker who played at Florida State from 1990-92, prior to heading to the NFL.

While the Seminoles remained in the running for the younger Jones until the end, the Bulldogs hosted him for an official visit this past weekend. And it seems that being the final school to meet with him worked in Georgia’s favor.
