Mike White has a deep connection to Ole Miss, both as a player and a coach for the Rebels. Now the head coach at Georgia, he addressed the recent elephant in the room in Oxford.

On Friday, Ole Miss officially announced a mutual parting of ways with head coach Kermit Davis. The Rebels have a losing record each of the last two seasons and have not returned to the NCAA Tournament since Davis’ first season with the program.

In a Friday press conference, White said he is “blessed” to be in Athens leading the Bulldogs. He’s also focused on building something special at Georgia.

White went on to say Ole Miss AD Keith Carter will make the right choice for the Rebels:

“Keith [Carter] will go through a process I’m sure and hire the right guy for my alma mater. It’s a place that I’ll always love, but yeah, I’m fired up about the Georgia Bulldogs,” White explained.

White played for Ole Miss from 1995-99, helping guide the Rebels to 3 NCAA Tournament appearances. He also spent time as an assistant coach in the program from 2004-11 before landing his first head coaching job at Louisiana Tech.

White has the Bulldogs 16-12 overall during his first season in Athens.
