Not long after a report that Georgia LB Brenton Cox has been dismissed from the team by Kirby Smart, a new report says that there are more indications that the former 5-star recruit is leaving UGA.

Jake Rowe of Dawgs247 reports that Cox has entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal. The dismissal report came from Rivals affiliate UGASports.com. Dawgs247’s reporting, meanwhile, has maintained that Cox’s dismissal is not final, but that there was an agreement to mutually part ways Sunday evening. As many fans are aware, a player entering his name into the transfer portal does not mean he has to leave the school. It does allow other coaching staffs to begin contacting the player and host him on an official visit to campus.

The reason for Cox’s dismissal has not been reported by either outlet. If it is not a career-ending offense, one would expect many teams to take an interest in Cox. As a 5-star recruit in the class of 2018, he had 25 scholarship offers including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri and Tennessee. Cox was committed to Ohio State in 2017, but decommitted from the Buckeyes before committing to Georgia and signing with the Bulldogs during the early signing period. Dell McGee and former defensive coordinator Mel Tucker (now the head coach at Colorado) led UGA’s recruitment of Cox.
