One of the most iconic live mascots in American sports will go through a normal transition later this year according to a report from the AJC’s Seth Emerson.
Uga IX, also named Russ, turned 11 years old last month and is nearing the end of his tenure as the Georgia Bulldogs “Uga” mascot. The Uga tradition goes back to 1956. Uga IX has been in place since 2012 while serving as interim mascot during different times between 2009 and 2012.
The likely candidate to succeed Uga IX is a one and a half year old dog named Que. Que is the grandson of Uga IX.
Russ, who is already 11 years old, will pass on the torch later in the year. School will look for a cooler temperature game.

Que- short for q-ball – is one of the possible replacements for Russ. He and "Gus" will get tryouts first. Switch will be made this year.
