Former Kentucky RB released by Detroit Lions, per report
Former Kentucky RB Benny Snell is looking for a new NFL opportunity. The Detroit Lions have let Snell go as part of roster cuts, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Snell is entering Year 5 of his professional career. He spent the previous 4 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Snell had a decorated career at Kentucky, joining an exclusive club of SEC rushers to record 1,000 yards on the ground in 3 consecutive seasons. He was a Freshman All-American in 2016 and named first-team All-SEC in 2017 and ’18. Snell was the MVP of the 2019 Citrus Bowl and received third-team All-American for his final season in Lexington.
The Steelers selected Snell with pick No. 122 in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his first 2 seasons, Snell made 5 starts in 29 regular-season games, rushing over 200 times. Over the past 2 seasons, Snell has made 34 appearances off the bench, logging a total of 56 carries.
