Kentucky baseball defeated Ball State 4-0 on Friday afternoon in Game 1 of the Lexington Regional.

The shutout means the Wildcats will move to the winner’s bracket where they will prepare to face the winner of West Virginia-Indiana on Saturday night.

Kentucky got on the board in the 1st inning with a solo home run from catcher Devin Burkes. He went 2-for-3 on the day and ended up scoring 2 of UK’s 4 runs against Ball State.

Here’s video of Burkes’ home run:

The Wildcats tacked on 3 insurance runs in the 8th. They scored one run on a wild pitch and 2 more were driven in by Emilien Pitre.

Kentucky also got 2 great pitching performances in this game. Travis Smith started the game and pitched 4 shutout frames. Mason Moore pitched the final 5 innings and didn’t allow any hits.

Kentucky will face the winner of WVU and Indiana on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a spot in the Regional Championship.
