No. 8 Kentucky and No. 15 Auburn entered Saturday’s game at Rupp Arena in Lexington as the only 2 teams with a chance to win the SEC regular-season title.

Kentucky was 13-2 in league play entering the game, with Auburn sitting at 11-4. The game was tight at halftime, with Kentucky holding a narrow 40-37 advantage.

However, Auburn couldn’t come up with enough offensive firepower to keep pace with Immanuel Quickley and the Wildcats. Quickley continues to play like the frontrunner for the SEC Player of the Year award. Kentucky ended up winning the game 73-66.

Even though he struggled from the floor, making only 3 of his 11 shots (including 1-of-6 from three-point range), Quickley affected the game in other ways. Yes, he scored a team-high 18 points, but he also grabbed 12 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season.

Star Kentucky freshman Tyrese Maxey also had a nice game, scoring 17 points and making this nifty little runner in the lane:

J’Von McCormick led the way with 13 points for Auburn, while Austin Wiley recorded a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double in the loss.

Kentucky only made 2 of 13 three-point shots, but Auburn only hit 9 of its 34 attempts. Kentucky also attempted 33 free throws (making 27), while Auburn went 13-for-22 from the charity stripe.

Kentucky is now the SEC regular-season champion, but we could see these 2 teams meet up again for an SEC Tournament title. That should be a lot of fun!
