Mark Stoops explains why the offense fizzled after high preseason expectations
Mark Stoops and Kentucky have not had the offensive year they wanted.
The Wildcats offense has been somewhat stagnant despite preseason expectations that it would be explosive with quarterback Devin Leary and pieces like Ray Davis. On Monday, Stoops pointed to the possible reasons for why the offense has been slow.
“There’s been a variety of things, that also gets frustrating,” Stoops said in his press conference Monday. “We’ve talked about throughout the year, whether it be a protection here, a drop here or a turnover, you name it. There’s been some things, but this is not the time to point fingers and throw any one person or area.”
And Stoops doesn’t just blame his offense for the loss to South Carolina on Saturday. He believes his defense had several chances to win the game.
“We had the opportunity to win that game even defensively,” Stoops said. “Giving up the points that we did and the possession where they scored with the 2nd and extra long and all that. We had the opportunity to win, so we’re all in it together.”
Kentucky is looking for a big upset this week as it takes on Louisville in the Governor’s Cup.
