Mark Stoops has not liked the effort out of his team in practice this week.
The Wildcats’ head coach made it clear that his players have not practicing like a team that is set to face the No. 1 team in the country on Saturday.
“We have to be fully prepared and the big thing for us is we have to have a strong belief system, and the only way you’re going to have confidence and truly believe is having a great week of practice, and in my opinion, we got to pick it up,” Stoops said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “I thought we had a decent Monday, but weren’t up to par on Tuesday to go play the No. 1 team in the country on the road. I think it comes from our players taking care of themselves, being prepared to have a great week, being physical in practice and having a strong belief system. … I’ve said for weeks that our team is coming together and you can’t deviate from that and when you go play these guys, you better be at your best. … If you want to do something that you haven’t done, then you’ve got to sacrifice. So we want something that we haven’t done here in a long time.”
Kentucky will need to be dialed in during practice the remainder of the week if they want to pull of a massive upset against Georgia this week. The Bulldogs have not lost to the Wildcats since 2010, and they don’t have any plans of losing that streak anytime soon.
The Wildcats had a solid game against Florida with their run game stealing the show. They’ll need to have similar success on the ground while also balancing things out through the air as they take on Georgia.
And to make things even harder for Kentucky, it will have to take on Georgia on the road in one of the loudest stadiums in the SEC.
The game between the Wildcats and Bulldogs kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
