After coming within one blown coverage of beating Florida for the first time in 30 years last season, the Kentucky Wildcats are gearing up to try to prevent the streak from extending to 32 years on Saturday.

The Wildcats will head to The Swamp to take on Dan Mullen’s new-look Gators, who won convincingly over Charleston Southern on Saturday.

On Monday, coach Mark Stoops was asked about the streak, and he said it’s important for the Wildcats to approach it as a chance to improve to 2-0 this season and not worry about the past three-plus decades (via 247Sports):

“We need to focus on it because it’s this year,” he said. “It’s an SEC team, it’s in the East and we want to win some football games. They’re next on the schedule, and that’s truthfully what it is about. These guys cannot worry about 30-some years and all that. They really can’t. Winning is important to our team each and every week, and that’s the approach we’ll have.”

Indeed, none of the current Kentucky players were born when the losing streak started, so it’s important that they focus on taking down the Gators this week and don’t let the pressure from the fanbase get to them.

Will it end this weekend? The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on the SEC Network.
