Gonzaga’s overtime win over UCLA was undoubtedly an instant classic, but was it the greatest college basketball game of all time?

Broadcasting legend Verne Lundquist thinks so.

On Sunday morning, Jay Bilas went on ESPN and shared details from a phone call with Bill Raftery, who was on the call for CBS last night. Raftery said he spoke with Lundquist after the game.

“When he calls at two in the morning, we started talking about that game and the different plays and how great it was,” Bilas said. “[Bill] said that Verne Lundquist had called him. And Verne Lundquist called the Duke-Kentucky game in ’92. And he said, ‘Tell your partner Grant Hill he’s got to move one step back, because that’s the best game ever.’

“People know the real deal when they see it, and that was the real deal. I would put it up with any of the top games I’ve ever seen.”

Lundquist is referring to Christian Laettner’s game-winner over Kentucky in the 1992 Elite Eight.

Lundquist isn’t alone in saying Gonzaga’s win on Saturday night tops the charts. Here’s some other reaction from the game:
