Brian Kelly praised the LSU and Auburn medical staffs for their work to offer care to Sevyn Banks, who was injured on a kickoff return on Saturday during LSU’s 21-17 victory, and carted off the field.

Kelly said Monday that Banks has a bruised spinal cord, which all things considered is great news given how the incident unfolded and he was taken to a local hospital from the field. There were no structural issues. Banks will be out 5-6 weeks, but everything else looked clear, Kelly said.

Kelly described Banks’ injury incident as a “very scary situation.”

Kelly said the injury is similar to Major Burns’ injury where there was a bruise.

At the time of the play, Auburn’s Wesley Steiner immediately signaled to the LSU sideline that Banks needed assistance. The LSU veteran was also called for targeting on the play.
