Brian Kelly is getting set for his second matchup in the LSU-Alabama rivalry this weekend. In last season’s meeting, he introduced himself with a narrow victory in Baton Rouge.
The familiar foes will no longer be joined together in 2024 as the SEC will move to a format without divisions. However, Kelly confirmed during a recent press conference that the programs will work together to keep the annual game on the slate.
“We’re going to have a say with teams we want to keep on our schedule. Each school has natural rivalries,” Kelly said. “Talking to Scott Woodward, we’d both be in agreement LSU-Alabama is a game we’d like to see played every year.”
Kelly is effusive in his praise for Nick Saban and the necessary preparation against Alabama.
“You know they’re going to be stingy so you’ve got to figure out ways to get points,” Kelly said. “When I played him in the national championship game in ’12, they were overwhelmingly strong on both lines. Now they are skilled and physical which has added to who they are.”
LSU will aim for back-to-back victories vs. Alabama for the first time since 2010-11. LSU at Alabama is slated for 7:45 p.m. EST on CBS.
