Brian Kelly shares reaction to epic Jayden Daniels vs. Joe Burrow MNF battle
Brian Kelly was proud of the LSU program he leads as he watched Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow slug it out on Monday Night Football in a showcase of former Tiger legendary quarterbacks.
Ultimately, Daniels won the battle of Heisman Trophy winners, as the rookie led the Washington Commanders to a 38-33 victory over Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals.
“I saw a number of the clips,” said Kelly. “When you have two Heisman winners in the NFL against each other and playing at such a high level, it speaks to the development of the players that come to LSU. And it resonates in recruiting.”

Daniels has been sensation so far this season in helping the Commanders to a 2-1 record and a tie for 1st place in the NFC East. The 2nd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft was given the highest rating at 95.9 by Pro Football Focus out of all NFL quarterbacks in Week 3, as he threw for 254 yards on a ridiculous 21-for-23 passing with 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
Daniels also ran for 39 yards and 1 touchdown in the victory, showing the same dual-threat ability that he did at LSU in winning the Heisman Trophy and most every other quarterback award in 2023.
Meanwhile, Burrow was very good on Monday night but not quite good enough. The 2019 Heisman Trophy winner who led LSU to the national title that season was 29-of-38 passing for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception. But his Bengals were playing from behind all night, and ultimately Daniels got the better of the duel between LSU greats.
