Former LSU AD Joe Alleva made some important decisions for the Tigers in his final years at the helm of the athletic department.

From firing Les Miles to hiring Ed Orgeron in football and Will Wade in basketball, he had his hands in a lot of the decisions that are paying dividends for LSU now.

However, one story that continues to be talked about is whether or not LSU should have, could have, or would have hired Jimbo Fisher to replace Miles. Alleva didn’t hold back in an interview with The Advocate, saying he never would have hired Fisher:

“I still have a lot of friends in the ACC,” Alleva said. “I talked to them, and after that I didn’t want any part of Jimbo. I would never have hired Jimbo. He was never on my radar. Now, fans and some people in the department wanted him, but I never wanted him.

“I could have made a change (at the end of the 2015 season). I recommended not to. Because I would have been forced to hire Jimbo. I would rather have had Les. But if I didn’t hire him, the outcry would have been ridiculous. So we had that meeting during the (Texas A&M) game, and I made the recommendation to keep (Miles).”

Those are some strong statements about the current Texas A&M coach. Of course, Alleva recently stepped down and was replaced by Scott Woodward as LSU’s AD (interestingly enough, Woodward hired Fisher at A&M).
