Just like passing game coordinator Joe Brady, Grant Delpit is taking his talents to the NFL.

LSU’s outstanding defensive back announced his decision on Wednesday. The 2019 Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s best defensive back, totaled 199 tackles, eight interceptions, seven sacks and 24 defended passes during his time in Baton Rouge and is expected to be among the first defensive backs taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

With LSU winning the national championship this season, there wasn’t much more for Delpit to realistically accomplish in college as he’ll leave Baton Rouge with a reputation few players from DBU could match.

Here’s the message Delpit shared to announce his decision:

“LSU Family. We are champs. We hoisted the trophy for you and LSU fans everywhere. I’ve decided to move on to the NFL. I will carry the joy and excitement of this season with me forever.

“Thank you Tiger Nation. You are the best fans in the world. Thanks to the coaches, especially Coach O, Coach Raymond and Coach Busch. Thanks to the LSU trainers and staff who helped our team turn our championship mentality into reality. Thank you to my brothers who pushed me to be great everyday and for memories that will last a lifetime. Finally, thank you to my family and supporters, my main goal is to make you proud.

“I look forward to the next chapter. God Bless!”
