LSU Board of Supervisors makes decision about basketball court name change proposal

The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved a name change for the school’s basketball court. It will now be called the Dale Brown/Sue Gunter Court.
The decision adds Gunter’s name as the Hall of Fame coach will join the legendary men’s basketball coach on the court inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The court was officially rebranded in late 2021.
The decision came in spite of weeks of pushback from vocal members of the LSU sports community, including high-profile figures in national sports media, such as Dick Vitale and Tim Brando. Critics have argued the name change undermines Brown, because the court was named him after less than 2 years ago.
Vitale claimed that it’s a move spurred by “ugly politics.”
Brando described it as political coercion, and added, “I’m pissed off and it’s time other people get pissed off. Shaq, I’ve texted you, where are you? Make the calls, do it now. We have other people in power who could do something about this and stop it.”
