In the aftermath of guiding the LSU women’s basketball team to a national title last season, Kim Mulkey is about to set a record in the sport.

Mulkey has reportedly agreed to terms on a 10-year/$32 million deal with LSU that will be the richest in the history of women’s college basketball, according to ESPN. The deal for Mulkey is awaiting approval on Friday from LSU’s board of supervisors.

Mulkey’s initial contract with LSU was for 8 years and was set to pay $22.5 million prior to incentives.

ESPN estimates that coaching peers such as UConn’s Geno Auriemma and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley each earned $3 million last season.

Mulkey enters the upcoming season with a career record of 692-112. LSU posted a 34-2 mark capped off with victories vs. Hawaii, Michigan, Utah, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Iowa in the NCAA Tournament to claim the program’s first national title. Forward Angel Reese was recognized as the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Prior to joining LSU, the member of the Basketball Hall of Fame captured 3 national titles with 4 Final Four appearance and 11 Big 12 Tournament championships at Baylor from 2000-2021. Mulkey is a 3-time winner of the AP College Basketball Coach of the Year award.

As a point guard, the 5-foot-4 Mulkey was an All-American at Louisiana Tech and captured an Olympic gold medal in 1984.
