Media, fans react to Joe Moorhead, Mississippi State finishing 2019 with disappointing bowl loss
After Mississippi State beat Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl in its regular-season finale to become eligible for a bowl game, the school decided that head coach Joe Moorhead would return in 2020.
But some Bulldogs fans think that may have been the wrong decision, especially after their 38-28 loss to Louisville in the Music City Bowl on Monday. Despite winning three of its final four games to reach the postseason, Mississippi State finished the year at 6-7.
As the Bulldogs’ season came to a disappointing end, fans and media alike took to Twitter to share their reaction about Moorhead’s future:
Mississippi State is having the worst bowl-showing of any team so far and that includes Oklahoma. How are they sticking with Moorhead?

I wonder what excuse Joe Moorhead will come up with at the postgame press conference.

Starting to think that MAYBE, maybe Joe Moorhead is not an offensive guru. Idk tho

Now that the high of the Egg Bowl has faded and we are watching a typical cluster 17 of a Moorhead coached game can anyone give me a serious reason why we shouldn't fire him?

Joe Moorhead makes a bowl to appease fan hatred only to coach his worst games in bowls and make fans even angrier before they were in the bowl game.

It took Joe Moorhead like one year to completely wreck what Dan Mullen built over a decade.

I didn’t expect Mississippi State to win, but I expected them to try to be competitive.
I really am starting to wonder how many chances you can give to Joe Moorhead…he keeps getting them…and he just squanders it…everytime. #MississippiState

yeah but to be fair Joe Moorhead is coaching that SEC team https://t.co/jIf320DaQH

I don't see Joe Moorhead staying long at Mississippi State after this performance.

Joe Moorhead, “You’ll have to drag my Yankee ass out of here.” Louisville, “Ok.”
— Brad Carson (@BradCarson) December 31, 2019
Hard to believe James Franklin was able to win 11 games without Joe Moorhead running the offense

Another comparison not working out in Starkville:
Mullen’s MSU bowl record: 6-2
Moorhead’s MSU bowl record: 0-2— David Paschall (@DavidSPaschall) December 31, 2019
Eat LSUFUSMC’s poo JoMo.
Moorehead is a con-artist. Nothink more.
“Moorehead is a con-artist. Nothing more.”
And Cohen is the patsy at the poker table, the “mark” for the sting.
Seems like Cohen doesn’t want to admit he made a horrible hire. IMO he should start working on correcting the mistake, over sticking his head in the sand.
When you refuse to correct a mistake, you become part of it. As an AD, Cohen is a fair baseball coach.
Did anyone notice the postgame handshake? It looked like Moorhead blew off Louisville’s coach. He gave a quick gesture and brushed off an embrace and any nice words the coach may say, too. I hope I saw it wrong, but that looked rude to me.
Out of all the problems in the game, this is what stood out to you?
Of course not. It was more like the final straw in his being the face of MSU football.
But since you asked –
Con #1 –
He started off treating the players like HS kids – “gimme your ring size.” That’s not confidence; it’s hubris!
Con #2 –
KT and Stevens were in a tight competition. Liar! He had no intentions of playing KT.
Con #3 –
Offensive guru. He’s shown he is offensive, but he’s no guru at FB.
Con #4 –
Not grooming/developing players. I consider there to be 2 QB careers he has damaged. Nick’s play went down after the coaching change, but at least he got to play. And then there’s KT. And the defense.
The biggest –
Lack of control. The suspended players’ infractions happened under his watch. Who monitors the academic progress? And his players should be a cohesive team, not fighting with each other.
I’m not impressed with game planning, adjustments.
I am certainly not impressed by the way he addressed the fans and alums.
CeeJay: Right on target.
Moorhead is a failure. PERIOD. Only those who are willfully blind or invincibly ignorant of the game of football can fail to see what you just outlined.
If Moorhead isn’t fired ASAP then we should loudly begin calling for Cohen’s removal.
Moorehead’s assistant is NOT a failure at LSU. Could it be that the assistant was the offensive genius and JoMo just took the credit? Then Cohen didn’t check beyond the news copy and bought the reputation hook, line, & sinker? I’d hate to admit I did that poor of a job too. Moorehead might not be the only BS artist in Starkville.
LOL
When a football coach is so stubborn and has implict bias towrds ceratin players this is what you get on the field. Some have called him a con -artist, incompetent, inept, ineffectual, unfitand no matter what adjective you use to describe Moorhead it all comes back to : “He is in over his head”
Our AD has enough to fire him for cause and no golden parachute. John Cohen start doing your job as Athletic Director.
He just does not seem to be Head Coach material…some are & some are not. Some men develop into Good Head Coaches and others, not at all.
