LaQuinston Sharp will be coming back to Mississippi State for a 6th season of college football.

On Thursday, Sharp received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA, which was announced by the Bulldogs with a video in which offensive line coach Mason Miller broke the news to Sharp. It’s a welcome return for Mississippi State, as Sharp is currently its starting center.

The Bulldogs are preparing for their Liberty Bowl matchup against Texas Tech. And while they were in the weight room on Thursday, Miller found a way to let Sharp know about the NCAA’s decision:

Sharp’s sophomore season at East Mississippi Community College ended early due to injury, which is why he applied to get an additional year of eligibility. It’ll be his 6th season, because he also received an extra year due to the COVID-19 pandemic (which the NCAA extended to all players).

After 2 years at East Mississippi Community College, Sharp was a 3-star JUCO recruit in Mississippi State’s 2019 class. In his 1st season with the Bulldogs, he played 9 games and made 5 starts at right guard.

Sharp then played in 9 games and made 4 starts in 2020, mostly appearing at left guard. But he earned a larger role in 2021, becoming Mississippi State’s starting center.
