Mizzou earned an enormous win over No. 5 Florida on Tuesday night in Gainesville.
The Tigers beat the Gators 83-82 on the road, giving them their best win of the season to-date. It further solidifies Mizzou’s status as an NCAA Tournament team as the calendar moves toward mid-January. It’s also Missouri’s second top-5 win of the season — it previously beat Kansas 76-67 back on Dec. 8.
Missouri was led by Caleb Grill, who poured in a game-high 22 points off the bench. Mark Mitchell also had a big game, adding 15 points and 8 rebounds. The Tigers created a significant number of extra possessions through offensive rebounds (20) and forced turnovers (13). That proved to be just enough to best the Gators despite allowing Florida to shoot over 48% from the field.
Mizzou is now 14-3 on the season and has a couple of Quad 1 victories on its résumé. It’s still early, but the Tigers appear to be on track to make the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the Dennis Gates era.
Missouri will be in action again on Saturday when it hosts Arkansas.
