North Carolina was given one of the most stunning second chances you’ll ever see in baseball at any level. The Tar Heels took advantage of the unlikely opportunity and defeated Indiana in extra innings.
IU led UNC 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th. It was bases loaded and 2 outs when Lee Sowers hit a bouncing ball to second base. Considering how easy the bouncing was gloved, this should have been an easy 5-4 putout for the 3rd out to end the game 3-1 in the Hoosiers’ favor. Instead, Aiden Stewart shockingly threw the ball away.

The error allowed 2 runs to score, tying things up 3-3. It went on to extra innings, and the Tar Heels finished off their improbable comeback in the 11th inning. Macon Winslow ended the game with a walk-off blast off the scoreboard.
