SEC baseball is coming off a massive weekend of action that saw a number of the league’s top programs all take the field against each other in series that have shaken up the pecking order in college baseball’s best conference.
One of the biggest showdowns of the weekend was the 3 game set between the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns and the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia that had massive implications for both team’s respective season’s moving forward.
The Gamecocks and Longhorns split the first 2 games of the set with Carolina taking game 1 and Texas bouncing back for the win in game 2, and the Horns rallied back in the rubber match on Saturday to pick up a massive in-conference series win.
Sophomore lefty Dylan Volantis picked up the win on the bump for Texas after tossing 5.2 innings of 1 run ball and fanning 6 batters, and the pullpen comined for 3.1 innings of shutout ball to secure the win.
This massive series win allowed the Longhorns to keep pace in with the SEC-leading Georgia Bulldogs at the top of the conference standings, while the series loss sunk the Gamecocks to the bottom of the table in SEC play.
