After dropping Friday’s series opener at home, Tennessee bounced back with a big win on Saturday. The Vols and LSU Tigers are now split 1-1 heading into Sunday’s rubber game.
UT used just two pitchers in the game. Starter Tegan Kuhns tossed the first 4 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits and 2 walks. Cam Appenzeller took over and quieted the LSU bats. Appenzeller gave up a single to the first batter he faced before retiring the next 15 Tigers in a row to finish the game. Appenzeller had 6 strikeouts over 5 scoreless frames with just the 1 hit and no walks.

Saturday’s scoring action all took place in the first 4 innings. The Vols took advantage of a fielding miscue in the 1st inning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Blake Grimmer hit a solo home run in the 3rd inning and Jay Abernathy hit an RBI double in the 4th to plate Trent Grindlinger.
