Texas A&M won a series over No. 2 LSU, and the Aggies did it the hard way.

Trailing 4-2 in the 8th inning and with 2 outs on Sunday, Texas A&M was 1 out away from possibly seeing its weekend go up in smoke. Then everything changed as the Aggies erupted for 4 runs, highlighted by Caden Sorrell’s 3-run blast, and Texas A&M finished off a 6-4 victory and the crucial series victory.

Chase Shores struck out a pair for LSU but was taken out of the game with a runner in scoring position. Left-hander Conner Ware replaced Shores and allowed an infield single that drove in a run, making the score 4-3. Then Ware was taken out and replaced by righty Zac Cowan, who allowed a bloop single that put 2 runners on base.

The moment was set for Sorrell, and he met that moment by hammering a 2-1 pitch over the left-field wall that changed the inning, the game and the weekend series. The Texas A&M social media account celebrated the victory and the series win with this post:

The weather wreaked havoc on the series, like it did most everywhere in the SEC this weekend. Friday’s game was postponed to Saturday because of a bad weather forecast, and the teams played a doubleheader on Saturday. Texas A&M took the first game of the doubleheader 3-1 before LSU responded with a 2-1 win in Game 2.

That set the stage for Sunday’s rubber game, and the Aggies wouldn’t be denied in that pivotal 8th inning. Texas A&M improved to 27-20 overall and 10-14 in the rugged SEC with the victory, while LSU dropped to 38-11 and 15-9 in conference play.
