The second-ranked Texas baseball team rebounded from a Thursday night setback against South Carolina to defeat the Gamecocks 5-3 and even the SEC series in front of 6,609 at Founders Park in Columbia.
Texas (25-5 overall, 8-3 SEC) can win the series by taking Game 3 on Saturday (2 pm ET, SEC Network+). South Carolina (15-17, 2-9) can earn its first conference series victory of the season with a win Saturday.
Carson Tinney blasted two home runs for Texas in Friday night’s win, a solo shot to left in the first and another on nearly the identical track in the top of the ninth. Ethan Mendoza, who singled home a Longhorns run in the second, also hit a solo homer in the ninth.
South Carolina relied on the long ball for its runs, as Luke Yuhasz belted a two-run homer to left in the fifth inning and Will Craddock added a solo shot to left in the ninth.
Texas starter Luke Harrison (4-0) allowed just one hit – the Yuhasz homer – over 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory. Sam Cozart struck out four Gamecocks in 1 1/3 innings to earn his third save. South Carolina starter Josh Gunther (2-3) took the loss for the Gamecocks.
Is this the Longhorns’ year to win it all? Predict the college baseball champion on Kalshi!
