Wes Johnson provides update for Kenny Ishikawa following early exit vs. USC Upstate
The Georgia baseball team picked up a mid-week win over USC Upstate on Wednesday night, but it may have come at a steep cost.
During the Bulldogs’ 12-6 victory over the Spartans, sophomore outfielder Kenny Ishikawa was hit by a pitch on his right foot, and the Seattle University transfer was forced to leave the game as a result.
Following the matchup, UGA head coach Wes Johnson provided an update on Ishikawa’s status, revealing that the Japan native was already sporting a boot.
“Yeah, we just got him in a boot. We’ll go get him checked out again a little further in the morning,” Johnson said. “You do some preliminary stuff, and then you take precautions. And that’s just kind of where we’re at with Kenny. We should know a little more tomorrow.”
Ishikawa was a highly touted transfer from Seattle, as he led the Redhawks in batting average (.318), OPS (.982) and slugging percentage (.562) last season. The sophomore started 51 games and set a program record with 23 doubles as a two-way standout for Seattle, making him a hot commodity in the portal.
With a timetable for Ishikawa’s return currently unknown, the Bulldogs will next welcome Samford a three-game series over the weekend, beginning with a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday.
