No, Jon Scheyer hasn’t won a national championship yet as the head coach for the Duke Blue Devils. He has accomplished pretty much everything else in Durham, though, through just 3 seasons as Mike Krzyzewski’s successor. As a result, he has earned more time running his alma mater.

On Thursday, Duke athletic director Nina King announced that Scheyer has agreed to a 2-year contract extension. Scheyer’s new deal will keep him in charge of the Blue Devils’ basketball team through the conclusion of the 2030-31 campaign.

Jon’s remarkable impact over his first three seasons has positioned Duke Basketball for sustained excellence, and we are proud to ensure his leadership well into the future,” King said in a press release. “He has delivered championships and national prominence, and he continues to lead a program built on character, connection and a relentless pursuit of greatness. Jon’s vision for Duke Basketball aligns perfectly with our highest aspirations, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future of this program under his leadership.

Scheyer’s 89 victories through 3 seasons are tied with Brad Stevens (at Butler) and Brad Underwood (Stephen F. Austin) for the most in Division I history. He’s the only coach to win the ACC Tournament twice in his first 3 years as a head coach. Last season’s loss to Houston in the Final Four was disappointing, but his immense success suggests he’ll be back there frequently over this contract’s duration. Duke opens the 2025-26 campaign versus Texas on Nov. 4.
